Dr. Thomas Jeffries
Dr. Thomas Jeffries, M.D. Bio
A lifelong North Carolina resident, Dr. Jeffries was born in Durham and has called the state home for most of his life. His educational journey began at Garner High School before earning his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Duke University. Following graduation, he gained valuable international experience working in Europe for a summer, which sparked his interest in global service. This passion led Dr. Jeffries to join the Peace Corps, where he spent two transformative years in the Democratic Republic of Congo—an experience he fondly describes as living "in paradise." Upon returning to the United States, he pursued his medical degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, followed by a Family Practice residency through the University of Virginia in Lynchburg.
Dr. Jeffries began his medical career in community healthcare, spending two years at a community health center in Raleigh. He then transitioned to emergency medicine, working as an Emergency Room physician for eight years before establishing his own family medicine practice in 2000. Over the subsequent five years, his practice flourished and became recognized as a trusted source for compassionate, accessible healthcare in North Raleigh. His commitment to medical education led to his role as a preceptor for UNC-Chapel Hill's nursing school, where he continues to mentor master's-level nursing students.
In 2011, Dr. Jeffries expanded his service in two significant ways: joining the NC-1 DMAT (Disaster Medical Assistance Team) as part of a federal rapid response emergency medical team, and becoming an adjunct instructor for the UNC School of Medicine. Dr. Jeffries holds board certifications in both Family Medicine and Holistic Medicine, reflecting his comprehensive approach to healthcare. While grounded in traditional allopathic medicine, he also incorporates natural and alternative treatment methods into his practice. He welcomes patients across all age groups and conditions, with a particular passion for empowering patients to take active control of their health and wellness.
Dr. Jeffries' commitment to international healthcare extends well beyond his Peace Corps service. Over the past decade, he has participated in medical mission trips to Zimbabwe, Bolivia, Mexico, Belize, Haiti, and returned to the Democratic Republic of Congo, bringing essential healthcare services to underserved communities worldwide. Dr. Jeffries shares his North Raleigh home with his wife, Glenda. Together, they have three adult children and are proud grandparents to five grandchildren. When not practicing medicine, he enjoys an active outdoor lifestyle that includes hiking, nature observation, swimming, biking, and trail running. He also cherishes time spent with his family and his beloved collies.
